Tucked away in the ancient woodland of Rockingham Forest, once a hunting ground for William the Conqueror, sits Fineshade Wood Campsite. A well-kept secret. Set between Stamford and Corby in north Northamptonshire, this is woodland camping at its most peaceful, in a forest that promises delight.

Whether you come with a tent, motorhome or caravan, you’ll get a lovely warm welcome from our friendly wardens, on-site and ready to help you settle in.

From here, the forest is yours to explore; winding trails for walkers and cyclists, a wildlife hide to watch quietly for birds, brilliant play areas for little ones, a nature-filled sensory garden, and a fantastic visitor centre and cafe right on your doorstep.

Dogs are very welcome too. For those looking to explore and those looking to pause, Fineshade Wood has a habit of becoming a firm favourite. Stay from ยฃ18.00 a night.

we had a lovely 3 night stay at Fineshades, the wardens were very helpful, and the site is very well kept, with many improvements over the old CAMC site, which we used a lot. We'll definitely be back for more short breaks to this lovely part of North Northamptonshire

Just home from our first time camping. From entering the site to leaving it, I can only say it was fantastic. The staff were very warm and welcoming. The site wasn't full so well advised on which pitch to use. Toilets were exceptionally clean. Closed 11-12 for cleaning. The whole site was clean with no litter. Recycling facilities avaliable. Has a dog wash/bike wash as well. Lots of choice from hardstanding and grass pitches. We had an electrical hook up which was perfect. Only downside would be no showers. But we were happy to just strip wash. I think if you were to stay longer you would probably appreciate a shower. On talking to a staff member they are considering getting showers installed next season. Fineshade woods is lovely for dog walks, suitable for buggies, wheelchairs and bikes. Lots of different routes to follow. One tired doggo... with image of footpath in the woods Will absolutely go again. We thoroughly enjoyed our first ever camping experience ๐Ÿ˜€

Our stay has been over one of the busiest weekends of the year. Lovely warm welcome by the wardens on what was the wettest day of the year. Our pitch was nice & level with facilities nearby. Although I didn't use the wash up station ,I saw it was spotless. Quite a feat for something that's got no cover & is under the trees. The wardens worked constantly over the weekend & at no point on using the loos did it lack in any way. Always clean ,in fact no it wasn't just clean ,it was spotless. Thankyou for a lovely stay in a beautiful place. We have really enjoyed it & will be back.

Spent a wonderful weekend at Fineshades Camping Site and couldnโ€™t fault a thing. The pitches were spacious, the facilities spotless, and the team on site were welcoming and helpful. The woodland walks and wildlife made it even better. A perfect spot for a peaceful break โ€” will definitely be back.

Things to do

Refreshments, Snacks & Lunch

Youโ€™ll find Grounds Cafรฉ in a beautiful historic courtyard right on the Campsite doorstep.

The perfect excuse to stop for a light bite. Homemade cakes, gelatos, proper coffee – and for the dogs, their very own ice cream.

Open daily.

Cycle and walking trails

Three waymarked walking trails wind through ancient woodland, from an easy two-mile stroll to a more challenging climb with sweeping views over Rockingham Forest. Cyclists have a five-mile family trail and seven blue-grade mountain bike sections. Bike hire (& repair) available on site.

Play areas

Scramble and swing your way around 5 different play areas located around the forest. Youโ€™ll find sensory features, exploration zones created from natural materials, slides, multi-level structures and a treehouse with ropes and ladders โ€“ great for burning off steam.

Wildlife spotting

So much to see. Just off the Dales Wood trail youโ€™ll find our wildlife hide. Look out for chiffchaffs, blackcaps, jays, the rare Chequered Skipper butterfly (in summer) and keep your eyes peeled for the once extinct red kites.

Excited? Let’s get you booked in.
